This walk is free and open to the public. Register at this link to let CNY Land Trust know you plan to attend.

Come out and get to know this beautiful place with CNY Land Trust! Join CNY Land Trust volunteer Matt Young, Collections Management Leader at the Macaulay Library, Cornell Lab of Ornithology, will lead the walk. Bring binoculars if you have them, a water bottle, and plan on wearing shoes and clothing for outdoor weather and walking.

CNY Land Trust has partnered with Friends of Great Bear for the Campaign to Save Whiskey Island & Northern Great Bear to acquire and preserve the northern third of the recreation area, currently for sale.  With trails through fields, woods and wetlands, plus canal towpath and riverfront access, Great Bear Springs Recreation Area (GBSRA) is truly special natural open space, open to everyone, every day of the year for non-motorized recreation.

The privately-owned portion of GBSRA is now for sale and a change in ownership of this acreage could jeopardize the integrity of the entire GBSRA.  The challenge now is to raise the funds needed to acquire the property.  Interested in learning more?  Navigate to the CNY Land Trust newsletter, The Journal, for a front page article by CNY Land Trust board member Steve Kulick.

Can’t join the walk, but want to help? Please consider making a donation to ensure that GBSRA remains intact and permanently accessible to the public. Thank you!

Questions? Contact us, and see you on November 5!
