Often your gift to CNYLT can be magnified by matching funds from companies and foundations. Check with your company’s human resource office to see if your company matches your gifts!
Looking for Volunteer Opportunities?
The Central New York Land Trust counts on volunteers to care for its 49 preserves located in Onondaga and Oswego Counties in New York. Plenty of opportunities for stewardship, or caring for the land, are available by volunteering with CNY Land Trust’s Stewardship Committee. Stewardship takes many different forms and the CNY Land Trust welcomes:
- corporations and their employee groups
- community service organizations
- Boy Scouts of America Eagle Scout Candidates
- Girl Scouts
- youth and student groups of any kind
In addition, CNY Land Trust is seeking volunteers to act as Preserve Stewards. These volunteers check on one or two of our properties monthly to make sure that everything is as should be, and may even be called in to help if there are any issues with their particular property.
Other active committees seeking to grow, and led by board members, include Fundraising and Acquisitions.
Please Contact Us with your interest and be sure to check News and Events for upcoming Committee activities. Everyone is welcome!
10 Other Ways to support Central New York Land Trust
Donor Advised Funds:
A distribution from your donor advised fund is a valuable way to help support the CNY Land Trust mission. As we are a not-for-profit organization, donations can be part of your tax strategy.
Donations of land are frequently made in order to protect a unique or simply beloved natural area where future protection in private hands may be in doubt. All such offers are referred to CNYLT’s Acquisitions Committee for evaluation.
Gifts of Stocks and Bonds:
For full tax benefits, your broker can electronically transfer securities to CNYLT’s broker, or you can send unsigned stock certificates to CNYLT by certified mail.
Gifts from your IRA
As you plan your minimum required distributions for the year, consider using it as a charitable gift. Individuals ages 70 1/2 and over can make charitable gifts directly from a traditional IRA account without incurring federal income tax on the withdrawal. The IRA Charitable Rollover provides you with an excellent opportunity to make gifts during your lifetime from an asset that might be subject to multiple levels of taxation if it remained in your taxable estate.
Life Income Gifts:
Gifts of appreciated property can generate income for you with positive tax benefits. One example is a charitable income remainder trust (CRUT)
You can reduce inheritance taxes by designating in your will specific gifts of cash, property or a percentage of the remainder of your estate to CNYLT.
Property or assets can stay in the family while your gift reduces estate taxes and supports CNYLT
Designating CNYLT as a beneficiary of a paid-up policy or a new policy helps the organization’s future endowment and provides you with a tax deduction.
Retained Life Estate:
You retain occupancy of the property for life, but give your primary or vacation home or farm to CNYLT for its future income.
You can deduct the full fair-market value of gifts of personal property (art, antiques, etc.)
Please note that these are simply ways to consider giving to the CNY Land Trust. The CNY Land Trust does not give financial advice and asks you to contact your tax or financial advisor to see what might be best for your circumstances.
