This beautiful preserve is in the process of being acquired. We must raise funds to permanently add Pleasant Valley to the CNYLT portfolio by purchasing the property. This is exactly the type of preserve we all love, good for recreational pleasures while helping preserve the land. Please help with your donation at the “donate” page on this website, or by sending a check, and mark it for Pleasant Valley. Thank you. All donations up to $150,000 are being matched by a generous donor. Your donation in any amount will help.
This treasure is about 6 miles SW of Onondaga Community College, on Pleasant Valley Road, about 0.3 miles west of Cedarvale Road. You will find a walk-in entrance via a gravel road on the south side of Pleasant Valley Road.
The preserve consists of 297 acres of land: 203 acres from this acquisition along with the adjacent CNY Land Trust property (Lockwood property). There are diverse ecosystems providing land and aquatic habitats for wildlife as well as recreational opportunities for people. They include upland forest, cedar/mixed woodland swamp, open wetland, open field, stream, pond, and two small field pools.
Recreational opportunities include hiking, cross-country skiing, photography, bird watching, fishing, botanizing, snow-shoeing, etc. Conservation also helps maintain important agricultural lands and landscape features.
Currently there 3 newly marked trails extending a total of approximately 3 miles. As maple sap is annually harvested from this land and used by Cedarvale Maple Syrup Co. , please take care to not disturb the sap tubing that you will see in the woods. Please respect the fragility of trails and do not use bicycles, strollers, or motorized vehicles.
