The 100 acre Riverwalk Nature Preserve, located right next to the Riverwalk residential subdivision on Guy Young Road. A mile long walking trail is two-thirds complete, as well as a parking area on Guy Young Rd. CNY Land Trust is grateful to students from SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry who helped design the trail which include boardwalks and interpretive signs, and to The Bragman Companies and other local businesses who have contributed to trail development.
The Preserve is mostly wooded wetland. A line of very large ‘wolf trees’ runs through the preserve, and these tall, trees once served as boundaries of agricultural use. These wolf trees include white oak and swamp white oak, shagbark hickory, silver maple; there are handsome groves of eastern hemlock in the preserve as well. The preserve serves as a home various types of wildlife, including the endangered Indiana Bat (Myotis sodalis). New trail markers, sponsored by The Bragman Companies, offer an educational experience along the existing trail, which can be accessed from Wolf Tree Path, in the Riverwalk neighborhood.
